The “Cool Key”, a day in Islamorada and all the possibilities.
For fishermen, start the morning with breakfast and coffee watching the sunrise over the ocean. Then an early departure out into the backcountry flats for a morning of sight fishing for bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook and redfish. Back to the dock by noon, a quick lunch and another half day offshore hunting sailfish, swordfish, Mahi, and wahoo.
After a long day on the water, you sit back at one of the many bayside restaurants, relax with your drink of choice, enjoy your fresh caught fish for dinner and watch the beautiful sunset. Pretty sure for any avid fishermen, that may be about as perfect as it gets.
Diving and snorkeling more your interest, grab breakfast at one of the many great spots in Islamorada. Head out to the reefs or wrecks offshore and see what a real life aquariums looks like. Waters so clear and so blue that has only been possible in your imagination. Back to the dock for some fish tacos and then a tour of the “History of Diving Museum”. A relaxing dinner at one of the great restaurants along the Overseas Highway is always a good way to end the day.
Nature lovers surely with take in the sunrise before heading out on a kayak or paddle board tour, a walking tour at Indian Key State Park, a dolphin excursion, or a morning at the “Theatre of the Sea”. Windley Key Fossil Reef State Park and Lignumvitae State Park are other great places to explore and hike.
Beachgoers will find unique shallow water beaches all along the Overseas Highway. Founders Park, Anne’ s Beach and many resort beaches are great spot to sit back and relax while soaking up some Florida sun. And one of the best beaches of them all, with 360 degree views, the famous “Islamorada Sandbar”.
Foodies and shoppers will also be delighted to the offerings in Islamorada. The cuisine is second to none. The seafood comes right off the docks and the carnivores will be pleasantly surprised with the quality of the beef. There are plenty of ethnic locations as well. Quaint boutiques, galleries, spas and markets are plentiful and eclectic. Let’s not forget the Worldwide Sportsman that simply has it all.
The fun does not end when the sun goes down. Live entertainment, dancing, full moon parties, beach parties, sports bars, are all available to keep you going as long as you can last.
Islamorada has it all, but most important, Islamorada has kept its small fisherman’s village charm. The “Cool Key” by far.
