Freebee Ridesharing Program to Expand Hours and Footprint

VILLAGE-WIDE FREEBEE RIDESHARING PROGRAM TO BEGIN BY EARLY FEBRUARY 2020

NEW EXPANDED HOURS OF OPERATION

CURRENT PROGRAM AND HOURS CONTINUE ON UPPER MATECUMBE KEY UNTIL THE NEW PROGRAM BEGINS

FREEBEE Electric Vehicle Ridesharing Service has been running on Upper Matecumbe Key since November 2018. The service has become very popular with both tourists and residents and the Village Council directed the program to be expanded to serve all of Islamorada. Freebee will provide the Village-wide services with new larger vehicles that can drive on the Overseas Highway and cross bridges. The vehicles were expected to be delivered to Freebee late 2019, but the delivery has been delayed. The expanded service should begin by the first week of February 2020.

With the Village-wide service, the hours of operation will be expanded to 70 hours a week. The new hours will be:

Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10am to 10pm
Thursdays 11am to 11pm
Fridays from 11am to midnight,
Saturdays from 12pm to midnight
Sundays from 11am to 8pm
The hours will be evaluated and adjusted based upon
ridership and input from the community.

The current door-to-door service is available on Upper Matecumbe Key Thursday through Sunday:

Thursdays and Fridays from 4pm to midnight,
Saturdays from 12pm to midnight and
Sundays from 11am to 8pm

Download the Ride Freebee app from the App Store or from Google play. If you don’t have a smart phone, you may call 305-984-5057 to request a ride.

Everyone is encouraged to try the service. Just request a ride and jump on board the electric vehicle to visit your favorite “downtown Islamorada” destinations. Freebee will pick up customers right at their home, hotel or business within the service area. It’s not only a fun alternative transportation option – it reduces traffic congestion, addresses drinking and driving and reduces the Village’s carbon footprint. During the first six months of the trial period, 6.24 tons of CO2 emissions were prevented from being released into the atmosphere.
