Lionfish to be sold at Whole Foods

All 26 Florida Whole Foods Market locations will begin to sell Lionfish to its customers.

“When it comes to offering species like lionfish that are invasive, we see this as another way to promote healthy oceans so future generations can continue to enjoy seafood,” said David Ventura, Whole Foods Market seafood coordinator for the Florida region.

“You’re not only ordering lionfish,” she told the Free Press. “But you’re taking the pressure off other species.” said Marathon’s Rachel Bowman, an avid lionfish harvester since 2012

Tarpon Time

Just an FYI. The “Silver King” migration is in full swing. Fishing guides are reporting banner catches most days. Sizes vary, but some are significant. Plenty of mullet for bait to be found and best times are early morning or at dusk. They are everywhere; Flamingo, Channels, Bridges. So get out on the water and get yourself hooked!

Congratulations to the Villanova Wildcats

We here at Islamorada Times are proud alumni of Villanova University. We want VillanovaWildcats3to congratulate our beloved Wildcats on their second National Championship. Back in 1985 Villanova recorded the biggest upset in NCAA tournament final history defeating top ranked Georgetown, and fitting that last night Villanova’s shot with no time left on the clock to defeat the North Carolina Tarheals will go down as the greatest ending to a NCAA tournament final game.
